M22 Fresh Coats is a seven-year-old painting company in Traverse City, run by Evan Schultz and Fletcher Smith. We paint interiors, exteriors and cabinets across Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Benzie counties, and most of our work is on the water or in houses someone designed on purpose.

The finish you can feel
Run your hand along a door we sprayed and you will not find a brush line. That is the difference between a paint job and finish work: cabinets, trim and built-ins laid down in a urethane enamel that cures hard and levels like glass, colors picked on your wall in your own light instead of off a card, and walls so flat the afternoon sun off the bay cannot find a flaw. It is what we are known for on the water and in the houses someone built on purpose.
Lake-facing exteriors
The sun and the lake punish a west wall. We choose the heavier Emerald or Duration film wall by wall, prime bare cedar and seal the cut ends, so the house still looks new after the freeze-thaw.
Custom and historic interiors
Tall trim, coffered ceilings, old plaster, built-ins. Sprayed where it shows, cut by hand where it meets.
Kitchens
Doors off and numbered, sanded, primed and sprayed in our shop. Back in your kitchen in days, looking like they came that way.
Your color, not a card
Samples painted on the wall and looked at with you, morning and evening, before a gallon is bought.

Walkthrough and written scope
We look at the house, or your photos, and write down every surface, repair and product, with a start and finish window.
Protect and prep
Floors and furniture covered, then wash, scrape, sand, fill, caulk and prime. Most of the schedule goes here, because the finish is only as good as what is under it.
Finish
Two coats, brushed, rolled or sprayed to suit the surface.
Walk it with you
Tape off, rooms back together, and a last look together before we call it done.
